Hello friends,

I chose to participate in the Passion, Color, Joy 30 in 30 Challenge this year because color is such a big part of my world. I'm sure that I spend more time looking at color combinations than the average person. I can remember as a child being fascinated by art supplies, memorizing the names of colors and different shades. Okay, maybe it's a bit of an obsession!

Heres a collage of my first 7 paintings from the first week of the challenge:

I wanted to share my most recent entry in the art show, Messages and Memories. The artwork I created is titled "Unresolved feelings" and includes words, messages and comments about my life in the last five years. It's been a rocky road at times, but it felt good to get the feelings out and to create something beautiful out of it. I like how Kate Ashton from Ashton Gallery in San Diego states that we are creating history in the canvas. Adding layer after layer as well as words, created that history for me.

I'm looking forward to creating for the next show later in September. Check back for updates later in the month!

Keep painting,

Monica

In late June I received an email from The Foundry Artist Studios in Carlsbad, a part of the New Village Arts. It read, "Monica, if you are still interested in the studio space, it's yours!" I thought for a split second and knew I had to take it. For those of you not in the area, Carlsbad Village is a place filled with shopping, restaurants, art galleries, music, and fun! I quickly packed up my home studio, followed up my temporary space, and by July 1st I was the newest member of The Foundry. I am one of 16 artists who share studios, and it has been amazing to be surrounded by other creative people. It's open to the public from 12-4 Tuesday through Sunday, and is also open an hour before the theatre matinee and evening performances. Fo...

When creating non representational abstract art, the goal is to not find an image within the artwork, but more of a feeling or emotion when painting it. Colors often speak for themselves, but sometimes I get stuck. I often know the feeling I want to convey, but the word does not always present itself so easily. I often share may artwork in progress with my boyfriend, who takes one look, and gives me a word. His word today was radiate. I did a little research on the word, and found this quote that fits perfectly. 'Inspiration is the most RADIANT and flourishing expression of our authenticity" - Elaina Marie, author.

Most art exhibitions have a theme or subject for each show. I went ahead and signed up for six different Art shows in the next few months and so here's just a little sampling of each one. Their themes are all very different. It was fun to come up with something for each one. Now here's hoping they all get chosen!

When I started my business back in 2011, my main focus was Mixed media artwork. I chose to use The Artsy Girl Studio for all of my branding, and especially for my art licensing division. It will always be a part of my business, which includes my greeting card collection. I've chosen to release a new website to share my larger Abstract artwork, as well as my upcoming art shows and exhibitions around San Diego County. I hope you'll return often to see my latest updates as my collection builds in 2017.
